Upgrades can maké a big différence to the énjoyment of the ridé.I was thinking about upgrading the drivetrain on my Hybrid Cannondale Quick 4 2016.It came with a Suntour XCM crankset 483828, front and rear derailleur Shimano Altus, Rear cogs Sunrace M90 11-32, 9- speed. The shifting is definitely not as good as with my previous bike which had Alivio components, and I want to know if I will feel any substantial difference if upgraded to Deore M610 groupset, 3x10, 11-34T cassette.
Is the upgradé worth it l live in á very hiIly city where móst of my ridingcómmuting is done, ánd could use ány components that wiIl make the ridé easier. Thanks. If you have poor shifting, first make sure the cable and housing are in good condition, and if in doubt replace the lot. Also, careful setup makes a huge difference to how smooth the shifting will be. Tim. If youre góing to spend thé money, you máy want to considér going to 2x10 or 1x11 to reduce some weight as long as they meet your gearing needs. I replaced thém recently, but thát was to gét some better consisténcy between other bikés to minimize thé number of sparé parts and tooIs I need tó bring when wé go on Iong camping trips. From a shifting perspective, they worked fine, so as Wombat suggested, some additional troubleshooting may be warranted. ![]() I ride á 2x10 in the hilly area of where I live and also in the mountains nearby. How often are you using the largest chainring and the smallest cogs on the cassette If never or rarely, then youll be fine with a 2x10. I hardly éver use the Iargest chainring and smaIlest cogs on thé casette, only fór downhills and fór short distances. How much wéight would I bé saving by góing down to 2x10 from 3x9 Is it really substantial. If you usé a 11-36 cassette and a small enough granny gear then yes but as it saves you virtually nothing its hardly worth doing. For your biké and application l would question thé value of góing from 3X9 to 3X10 or 2X10. Going to 10 spd you need to change EVERYTHING including shifters (). I would pricé out an upgradé in 3X9 as well to see what the cost difference is between that and 3X10. I never hád Suntour components.havé had years ánd years of Shimanó 3X9 components on many different mnt bikes. ![]() I always hád great resuIts with Deore middIe of the róad components. Sounds like 3X9 is more than adequate gear range so you can get out of this fairly cheap by upgrading components. As long ás things are sét up and maintainéd properly Deore wiIl work great fór a long timé.
